Russia’s second city, is certainly one of the most beautiful in the world. She was born entirely of the Western dream of Tsar Peter the Great in the late seventeenth century, had a horror of the Kremlin in Moscow and was determined to give Russia an opening to the Baltic Sea. Built on the islands of the Neva Delta and its tributaries turned into canals, the “Venice of the North” is a delight for any art lover.
